Blogging
Is blogging coming to an end? Perhaps not an end but I am starting to think that the traditional personal blog is certainly starting to lose it’s appeal. There have been many changes in the blogosphere over the past couple of years. Individual blogs which were once ever so popular now seem to be fighting a losing battle with corporate blogs supported by armies of professional writers who are paid to create content on a regular basis. These days almost every news and media company has a blog. How is one person with a personal blog supposed to compete with that?
I also feel that social networking applications such as Facebook, MySpace, and twitter have had a big effect on the popularity of blogs. Facebook has so many features and it combines so many media types which a blog simply does not offer and therefore cannot compete with. Blogs do have one big advantage against Facebook, and that is anonymity. For me, the anonymity aspect is quite important in terms of blogging so I would never write what I write on my blog on Facebook.
These days I hardly ever find much time to devote to my blog. My blog is always competing with other distractions in life.
I guess for me it doesn’t really matter whether blogging looses in a popularity content against other types of media because for me this blog has always been just a way for me to express my thoughts and feeling without caring about it’s popularity. It is like a journal or diary with the added bonus that even now and then other people provide their opinion about my thoughts and ideas.
